The rail portage, approximately 30 miles South - west
of Andrew Bay, enables the transport of your boat
from Whitesail Lake to Eutsuk Lake. It is maintained by BC Parks,
and is manned from late May to late September.
Boats are loaded onto a specially
designed cart, and winched across using either a manual hand winch,
a chainsaw winch, or an all - terrain vehicle. Although the manual winch is free, it can take
up to half a day to move a large boat to the other side.
Chainsaw winches are faster and can pull a boat across in less than an hour.
The ATV used by the Park Facility Operator is the safest method and
can be done in about 10 minutes.
The boat seen below is a 25'
Dorsett with an 8'6" beam. This is about the largest boat
that the rail cart will handle.
